Hu Yan's "Shanghai Living"

Here's a fascinating glimpse into the lives of the people of Shanghai -- Hu Yan's photo essay on the New China. The accompanying commentary gives great context to the pictures. Check it out here.

My wife and I have comparatively decent salaries but our monthly expense is high. We have to pay for the apartment, the car and the studio, and therefore, we have pressure from time, energy and money. I like painting in the studio, it’s free and relaxing. I don’t know what to do when I come back home and usually I just stare blankly. I feel spiritually lonely.
